Walking Tour to the Art Gallery

ParkSide Centre member Elizabeth Holmes will be displaying her art work at the Art Gallery of Sudbury from February 28 - April 21, 2019. Elizabeth Holmes is a senior, multi-media artist based in Sudbury. Her art work is informed by her personal experiences, as well as observations of the experiences of others around her. Jim Cook will be leading a guided walk to the Art Gallery to take in Elizabeth’s Thinking About Loss exhibition.

Thinking About Loss is a paper-based art exhibition that explores the inherent beauty of discarded materials and the narrative stories which they carry, the passing of time, and change. The exhibition includes more than 65 art works and spans four decades of the artist’s work, from 1979 to 2019, evidencing techniques of collage, found objects and photography.

Admission to the exhibition is by donation.

Swedish Embroidery

Swedish weaving, a form of embroidery is a very relaxing and fun needle craft that dates back several centuries. In more recent times, this old needle craft has also been known as Swedish huck weaving, huckaback darning, huck embroidery and punto yugoslavo.

In the 1930's and 1940's, Swedish huck weaving on toweling was so popular that many designs were created. Some of these designs have been adapted for use with Monk's cloth. Today, the resurgence of Swedish weaving on Monk's cloth has made it once again very popular and the hottest needlecraft to do.

Join our craft group to learn how to embroider the Swedish way.
