The ParkSide has a growing number of options for people who are musically inclined. We have several different classes to teach you how to play an instrument. There is also live entertainment every Friday.

Music Appreciation – The Blues

Parkside’s new Music Appreciation Series begins with the history, artists & music of the American Blues. Each session will cover a different musical period or style in this genre, such as pre-1920’s Blues (W.C. Handy, etc), the Delta Blues (Robert Johnson, etc.), Chicago/Texas Blues (Muddy Waters, Howling Wolf, etc.) , Country Folk Blues of the ‘60’s (Mississippi John Hurt, etc.) and modern blues (Clapton, Stones, etc.) Not only will we be listening to the original songs & artists, but there will be selected live renditions from the session facilitator. Come in from the winter cold and listen to this earthy, original American art form.

Beginners Ukulele Lessons

The ukulele started to become popular in Canada in the 1960s when educator J. Chalmers Doane introduced the instrument to school music programs across the country. It was ideal for this purpose as it was an inexpensive and practical teaching instrument to foster musical literary in the classroom. 50,000 schoolchildren and adults learned ukulele through the Doane program at its peak. ParkSide member Marc Noiseux will try to emulate this success at the ParkSide Centre. A retired teacher, he has received a great deal of high-quality instruction with this instrument and would like to pass on his knowledge to others.

If you are new to the Ukulele, Marc will be here at 11:00 am to get you up to speed. You will need to bring your own Ukulele. You must pre-register for this class!
