Seniors Information Fair

This event will provide attendees the opportunity to discover some of the programs and services available to them. There are two components to the fair. The first is a trade show in which many of the service providers in the City of Greater Sudbury will be on hand to provide information about the programs and services available to you. This will be held all day and is open to everyone.

The second part of the fair will offer informative presentations. This year Outreach Officer Brenda Blake from the Canadian Revenue Agency will be giving an informative and engaging presentation on taxation credits. This talk will cover Disability Tax Credit, medical expenses, pension income splitting, making adjustments, online services and protecting yourself against fraud.

This fair is sure to be a fun, extremely informative, and an empowering experience for all. Space for the information fair is limited so register early by contacting the front desk.

The Quilts on the Rocks Show features a wide variety of techniques with newly quilted and stitched items created in the three year period since the last show. New to our show this year are Art quilts. We're very excited to bring this form of creativity to share with you. The show will display approximately 90 quilted items and over 40 stitched items. It will include both quilted and stitched items from the many evening workshops, weekend classes/workshops, as well as original designs. At the show we display our Guild’s Sudbury Heritage Quilt which was created specifically for the first Quilts on the Rocks Show in 1985. Also displayed will be our Stitchery Quilt and our 35th Anniversary Quilt.
Our show has something for everyone and be sure to stop by the Member Boutique and the Silent Auction to get some early Christmas shopping done.
We look forward to see you!

Be a Santa to a Senior

Each year Home Instead partners with the Parkside Centre and other local organizations to spread holiday cheer to lonely or financially-challenged seniors through the Be a Santa to a Senior program. Local seniors are identified who might not otherwise receive gifts during the holiday season. The Parkside sets up a large Christmas tree in the lobby which Home Instead adorns with ornaments. Each senior's gift requests are written on these ornaments. People then visit the Centre to take an ornament, register it with one of our volunteers, purchase the gift and return it and the ornament to the Centre to be wrapped at a Wrapping Party. This is a great way to help an isolated and under privileged senior.
